Have you ever heard someone describe their startup idea as “Like Uber, but for X”? Everyone working in a startup incubator has. That’s because models like Uber and Airbnb, disruption models, are lucrative. Who wouldn’t want to be the one who turns an entire industry on its head? The best way to describe a startup like this is often, “It’s like Airbnb, but for gardeners.” or any comparative app meant to shake-up a traditional industry.
That’s where we got the idea for Startup Foo.
What started as a parody on startup ideas quickly became a great resource for anyone with a disruptive idea and a passion for entrepreneurship. Many people with great ideas for startups aren’t sure how to get started, which is why we created a website specifically to help people get started.
When you first visit Startup Foo, the web page automatically generates a Startup idea for you. Some of the random combinations of apps and businesses are hilariously absurd ( “Like Ebay for Retired Boxers”) but the real value of Startup Foo becomes evident as soon as you scroll downward a bit. The page displays a list of resources for anyone looking to build a startup, and points you to the most important steps in the process.
For us, that means a name, a webpage, and a logo. Once you have these three things, you’re on your way to becoming a disrupt-er yourself. Maybe a startup idea for “Uber, but for Donald Trump” won’t quite take off, but whatever ideas you may have can get their start with Startup Foo.
